David Meckler has been with Merlone Geier and its predecessor entity since its formation in 1993. For 15 years prior to joining the firm, Mr. Meckler held senior positions involving real estate acquisition, disposition and site selection for a number of national retailers. These roles included acting as Vice President of Real Estate for Ross Stores, where he opened the first 150 stores, leading site selection at Longs Drugs and serving as an executive at the Safeway subsidiary responsible for monetizing Safeway’s excess real estate and land.
From 1994 to 2006, Mr. Meckler had primary responsibility for project management, design, leasing and construction management. From 2007 to 2014 his areas of focus included project conceptualization and design, anchor tenant leasing and retailer relations. Mr. Meckler semi-retired in 2015 and is currently consulting on Merlone Geier project conceptualization for new acquisitions and redevelopment projects.
Mr. Meckler graduated cum laude from the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry in 1973 with an undergraduate degree in environmental science. In 1975, he earned a Master of City Planning degree from Harvard University. Mr. Meckler is the Board President of Power2Sustain, an environmental education company, and a Board Member of TSCG, a real estate management company based in Atlanta and The San Francisco Jewish Film Institute. He is also on the advisory board for Street Soccer USA. He is an occassional resident in the firm’s San Francisco office.
